- I was born in Zeist 1953 (The Netherlands), started in 1967 with photography and art, my first art was a kind of “pop art”. At high school I sold A0 drawings to earn my first holiday to Ibiza. I also have made some longer documentaries in which I use the text and voices of the persons who are in these films, I don’t like to use voice-overs, in my opinion this is more natural and less boring.

Gabriela Abud

The water levels are rising, in view of global warming. Cities and lands are slowly but surely sinking. The sea, so abused by man through the ages is claiming its lot. The work asks what is drowning? The sea, water cannot drown. It is not in its nature to drown. But the actions of the sea will drown lands and with it, in time, people.
The work is part of the artist’s ongoing Environmental Series. It calls attention for the urgent need of increased awareness as to what is happening to our environment, planet. The work implores man to change his ways - to be more eco friendly. The work is predominently blue as blue is a color associated with oceans, seas and marine life. But blue is also a color synonymous with healing. It stands for peace, representing tranquility. This planet is in great need for healing. We must make peace with the land, the seas and all of creation.
Not just because we care, but because we have to protect the planet, saving it for our children, our children’s children, and the generations to come. This is the responsibility of every human being.
FLAVOR SERIES - ROOT
She produced a series of works on the connection between the first flavor perception and breast milk.
According to the origin of flavor, production of flavor, saturation ... Females play the leading role in all of them. We first perceive the flavor in the womb and then with breast milk. So the first of the flavor has something to do with our mother. Our mother's meals are our first meals. Homemade dishes and the dishes that our mother's hand gives are perhaps the origin of our taste perception. With the name of the Anatolian lands where the artist lives, that is to say the main and full words, the artist has also established a connection between the mother and the soil that produces the flavor and the root.

In the modern era, man has solved the problem of his biological survival to some extent by advancing in technology. Man today has better biological needs than man of the past, ie food, clothing, shelter and other facilities, but one of the main problems facing man for biological survival is the growing population. This problem indicates that our earth will become smaller than the population. Advances in technology and rapid growth in industries are hampering human biological survival, creating environmental pollution that threatens biological survival, as humans have advanced in developing advanced weapons of war. He has created for himself the means of destruction. Establishing peace is an important issue for man. As an artist, I have a keen eye on the issue of human survival on the one hand and climate change on the other. May the world end all types of pollution. If there is a peaceful and green environment, then there will be love everywhere and only through love will peace be possible.
I am interested in the relation between a man and nature and in the possible attitude of a human being towards nature. Nature is understood here as the world of flora, fauna and inanimate nature. The idea of my project is inspired by the philosophy of Zen and the treatment of nature as a source of inspiration which allows to keep a distance to the things and in which the most important is to notice and appreciate the apparently insignificant matters – “insignificant” from the point of view of modern men oriented to materialistic and pragmatic values. In addition to the pure fascination of nature and the perception of seemingly inessential elements of life, a man himself plays a very important role in my work.
A man is seen from the perspective of a journey in his everyday internal life which is extraordinarily different from the perspective of someone who observe “the same” from the outside. The direct, instant stimulus’ follow from the internal experience of other cultures, the contact with met people and from the contact with nature that gives me a feeling of “gazing novelty”, which is comparable to the experience of the world in someone childhood when everything is perceived as new and fascinating. One can find as a unifying element constituting the above mentioned fascination concerning nature and travels the touch of some timeless moments of the aware and fresh admiration of life which is distant from everyday superficial routine.

On the planet, forests have been cut down until now, and global warming is on the rise. The trees are screaming. "We are alive, just like humans" It is essential to protect the environment by taking care of trees that bring us various benefits. I believe that ecology means coexisting with various life on the earth. I want to make the world a better place to live for both humans and other living creatures.
I was born in Hiroshima, Japan. I've loved drawing since childhood. When I was in junior high school, I was traumatized in human relationship. It had a big impact on my life. Then I studied humanities at Niigata University. And after graduating, I drew pictures self-taught. I have drawn to heal my heart and mind. Especially I love drawing circles by using colored pencils and pens. The message I most want to communicate through my work is that even when you are desperate and even though you may not be aware, oceans of love support you and thanks to love, you live.

MOTHERHOOD
I recall my creation from a current perspective through new deeds reflecting the relationship and how I express myself. Artistic expression is close to me and my own. I perceive it as a bond between myself and myself. Motherhood has strengthened this inner creative thread and opened up my creative flow even more. Since I am Hari's mother, I perceive creation as an extension of myself. Even a necessity. It opens me in a direction where I feel a deep connection with myself: a space where I TRUST and from which I can GIVE, and DELIVER. The deeper I dive, the source of creation widens.
THE PROCESS
I enjoy extended creation. I select one element. I "knit" the image by repetition. I am committed. Devotion overflows into spontaneous creation. The element now begins to play, it moves and weaves the wholeness. "I revoke" in rhythmic repetition. I touch the joy. I feel bewitched. I get that feeling where joy is possible. It is not euphoric. Subtle admiration from an expected and desired meeting. Meeting with my joy.
I like to work in small and large formats equally. Now I am dedicated to Hari, so I find great satisfaction in making small segments that I can do wherever I am, regardless of the atelier.
With a small format, I want to go in subtle depth. Through the large formats, I spread into the ether, creating an atmosphere, bliss and invisibility. I work with rhythm. I perceive it as artistic music. Women’s rhythm. Rhythm helps me engage with myself, stay in the creative space and create from this space.
I am attaching photos of works created in different periods. I am glad to share. The ineffable remains to speak for itself.
MOTHERHOOD
MOTHER FLOWERS CREATE WORLDS - I draw and sing from my aspect, effort and experience of
MOTHERHOOD.
Early in the dawn, far from the sunrise, I sit in your embrace. With my eyes closed I find you awake and alive in my darkness. I sink into a deep silence. A silence where I can hear you. Your whisper is my truth. Warmth. A mother's hug. Presence. I see you inside. Invisible.
I open my eyes. A light shines on me. With both eyes, I see myself as splendid and gorgeous. Like now, flowing luscious golden hair. The ground - wet and rotten, the smell deep and cold. This is me, Mother. I come in white. White coldness and immense blueness. Flickering fireflies on my white dress. I dance in
rapture. Blizzards. It reflects light, I am intoxicated with whiteness. I'm dying. In death I am alive. Because I am a mother. I give birth to the sprouts of life from death. It is black in my womb. Black full of life. Because I am a mother. From here I give birth to you. I peer through the mud. I am lifting myself. I long to see myself in the light. I make myself beautiful. Graceful. Stable in the stem. Delicate in the petals. Creative in color. Original in form. Subtle in fragrance. I look beautiful. This is me, Mother. My pleasure infuseses me. With the fruit of life. Sweet nectar flavoured with joy springs from my womb. I feed the fruit with this nectar. The fruit of life. I nurture you in my warmth. I speak to you in deep
silence. I move you with the flow. In the ocean of life. The flow of the Divine Mother.
My flowers create worlds. Some visible. Many invisible. Always different. Unrepeatable. They spring out of nowhere. They create a worldview. I want to see myself beyond. I create you to see you. I am reaching out to you to recognize myself. From the indescribable, I make you so I hide you. Because you are Mother. Visible flower. Invisible world.
Embarking on his artistic journey in 1995, this talented artist has traversed a path marked by experimentation and exploration across various mediums and styles. After a decade of dedicated searching, a defining moment crystallized his distinctive style, leading to a remarkable solo exhibition titled "VENDORS."
Fueling his artistic pursuits with a profound passion and love for his innate talent, he seamlessly transitions between commissioned works and personal creations. From mural painting to silk screen printing, signages, and posters, his versatility extends beyond the canvas, driven by the dual purpose of sustaining his artistic endeavors and meeting the daily needs of his family.
In the face of evolving technological landscapes, the artist candidly acknowledges the transformation brought about by human innovations. Yet, amidst the shift to heat press, DTF machines, tarpaulins, and electronic billboards, he finds solace in the unwavering goodness of God. What was once a flourishing industry now lies dormant, a poignant reminder of the ever-changing dynamics in the world of art.
However, amidst these changes, the artist's work has not gone unnoticed by discerning art enthusiasts. Commissioned projects for his paintings have started to flow, focusing predominantly on the lives of common people grappling with the challenges of daily survival, individuals whose true value often remains overshadowed despite being the backbone of society.
The artist's journey takes an international turn as he gratefully acknowledges being among the 50 finalists at the Busan International Environment Art Festival, a testament to the universality and impact of his artistic expression.
Being a full-time artist in the Philippines, a nation brimming with talent and accomplished masters, is no small feat. Yet, for this artist named Leo, there's a profound trust in the divine process and perfect timing orchestrated by a higher power. In navigating the vibrant yet competitive artistic landscape, he holds steadfast to the helping hand of a benevolent God, ensuring that his artistic odyssey continues to unfold with grace and purpose.
